Preserve SignThe Preserve is a single-family-home subdivision located in Commerce Township, Oakland County, Michigan.

The subdivision was originally developed in 1996 by Silverman builders (later purchased by Toll Brothers).  Build-out was completed in 2002. There are 107 homes in the original development along with another 21 in a nearly identical but legally separate development called The Preserve West.

Home sizes are generally in the 2200-2800 sqft range.  Most lots are wooded, many homes have walk-out basements, attached 2 (and sometimes 3) car garages, fireplaces, wood flooring, and many other amenities.

Per its name, the subdivision features a large amount of green space, including roughly 20 acres of woods, open field areas, and wetlands.  Sidewalks exist throughout the neighborhood encouraging evening strolls and social engagement.  The demographics of the neighborhood has a decidedly younger feel.  Many of the bus stops have upwards of a dozen children getting on the bus each morning.  Games of street hockey, baseball, and other activities have been known to spontaneously break out.

The Preserve is located within the Huron Valley School District.  Country Oaks Elementary and NCA accredited Oak Valley Middle School are less than 2 miles west of the subdivision.  Lakeland High School is about 5 miles North.  In addition to being an excellent NCA accredited school on its own, Lakeland High School also hosts the West campus of the International Academy.  The International Academy is a highly acclaimed college prep school that is routinely ranked in the top-5 nationally.  The unique synergy allows achieving students to truly excel in a top-ranked academic environment while still having convenient access to the social and athletic opportunities of a traditional high school.

Local Amenities

The local fire station, Huron Valley Sinai Hospital, and a convenience store are all located about 1 mile east of the subdivision.  The quaint city of Milford with many unique shops and restaurants is a short 10 minute trip west. A thriving retail sector including Twelve Oaks Mall, various home repair stores, etc. are a 15-20 minute drive south and east.
